The next thing for avoidance will be the steering wheel won't let you change the lane, mark my words.

      Great question! As a dedicated truck driver, vacation time is an important consideration. Many companies offer paid time off, allowing drivers to take well-deserved breaks and spend quality time with their families. The specifics can vary depending on the company and your length of service, but it's always a good idea to discuss vacation policies during the hiring process to understand what you can expect.

    I believe one of the reasons why is because drivers are jumping from company to company because they can’t either get RESPECT, DECENT PAY or HOMETIME! Just a couple of years ago we were heroes. Everyone looked to us to save the country or I should say to be one of the saviors of this beautiful country. We were getting free food and getting a lot of thank you for your service compliments….. those times are gone. Now we’re being treated like redheaded stepchildren who have a pocket full of wet food stamps. It doesn’t take much for trucking companies to be decent and respectful. I could understand the market that we’re in the pay is not going to be the best but if a driver has a family and you go home every night as a dispatcher or terminal manager, you really should , take a look at the mirror and ask yourself. Am I doing the best for my employee as an American? There are a plethora of ways to be profitable and still be decent and respectful and a good employer. These truck drivers won’t jump from company to company and you’ll have employee retention. I would love to have a guy who has been working for me for 10 years. That knows my operation opposed to a guy who left Swift to go to JB Hunt and then left JB Hunt to go to Schnyder and then left Schnyder to go to wherever, in search of his happiness. People need to realize that an OTR driver out of a 365 day a year will be on the road at least 310 or 20 days

    There are not enough drivers to fill all of the available trucks. Unsure if trucking is oversaturated as a career, but in tech, job hopping is exactly how you make more money. Oftentimes, and in most industries, employers just straight up refuse good enough raises to retain workers. Why should a worker show loyalty to a company that is under paying them and refuses to give a wage? I've been "job hopping" every 1-2.5 years and its brought me from $18/hr to now just shy of $300k/yr. I wouldn't have gotten here without job hopping

    • @OverTheRoadATS
      @OverTheRoadATS 7 дней назад

      You make a great point! Job hopping can help you find better pay and opportunities, just like in tech. However, trucking companies have guidelines, and too many job changes in a short time can make it harder to get hired. Reevaluating your job every 1-2.5 years is a smart move that everyone should practice.

    • @OverTheRoadATS

      Thank you for your feedback! We absolutely agree that finding a company where you can build a long-term career is ideal. The point of the video was to highlight the importance of stability in your job history. Job hopping can negatively impact your chances with potential employers. By committing to at least a year, you show reliability and give yourself a fair chance to evaluate if the company is a good long-term fit. Ultimately, thorough research and a long-term mindset are key to a successful trucking career.

      Great question! When a trucking company is sold, it doesn't necessarily mean it's going to close, but it can be a sign of potential instability. If a company is struggling financially, it might sell to avoid shutting down. However, a sale can also be a strategic move for growth. It's important to pay attention to the context of the sale. If you notice other warning signs from the video, like financial troubles or poor management, it could indicate a higher risk of closure. It can still be a good career or just to get the license. Then look local or regional where you actually get home. Otr especially weeks at a time is lonely, it isn't much different than solitary confinement with constant aggravating factors. DOT, parking, payscales are shady at best, expensive food, demanding dispatch..... Still good to acquire a cdl and run box truck delivery, towing into heavy end, construction, gov jobs. Beats 4 year degree heavy debt and maybe a career & not everyone is scholar material or that patient. Cdl or a trade bumps income prospects upward.
